State Management - Display the current State

John R Jan 20, 2015 06:05PM UTC

During an engagement I will work with and save multiple states. Once I load or save a state I would like Burp to display the current state loaded. I tt would make it easier to manage all the various files. It would also be nice to display the state names when comparing site maps.

Thanks,

John

Thanks for the suggestion. Agreed, this would be a useful feature. In fact, we’re currently working on a more robust replacement to the state file mechanism, where you will create a “project file” in Burp for each engagement that you work on. Burp will save data incrementally in real time to the project file, which you can reopen instantly later (no need for a lengthy save/restore operation). When this feature is available, Burp will display the name/file for the current project in the title bar for that project’s window.

That's great. With the "Project File" would you be able to differentiate or filter different credentials (i.e. unauthenticated, regular user, admin) or would there be a Project File for each set of credentials?

Each project will have its own independent configuration settings, which are stored in the project file. So you could very easily create several parallel projects with different credentials (or any other relevant settings).

Excellent!

On a separate note, it would be nice to be able to opt in to have the Forum email me when the topic is updated.

I believe that you should be emailed when a community discussion post is answered provided you have created a Support Center account and verified your email address. If that isn’t working, let us know, thanks.
