Fix gray autocomplete orphan dialogs

Mike | Last updated: Sep 22, 2015 09:58AM UTC

When working on Kali 2.0 and maybe others, Burp Suite tries to autocomplete previously used input. This generates an empty grey window that, sometimes, remains open and it's added to the list of open windows. Closing this will close Burp suite without prompting for confirmation. root@kali:~/Burp# java -version java version "1.8.0_51" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_51-b16) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.51-b03, mixed mode)

Thanks for this report. Are you able to share a screenshot of the problem happening?

I have uploaded two screenshots to the following album: https://imgur.com/a/SVfVE Intruder form is the one I see it happening more often but I have seen it happening in other parts of the application.

Thanks for the further details. It's possible this is down to an issue with the Java installation used by Kali, as the popups Burp creates are supposed to be lightweight with no interplay with the platform's window management. We'll try to reproduce the problem with your specific set-up, and see whether we can fix Burp to stop it happening.

This is something I have experience in other OS like Windows, but reported it on Kali 2.0 as it is probably easier to replicate.

Not as yet, sorry. We'll update this thread when we've had a chance to investigate this and have some progress.

Any updates on this?

Guess no one can reproduce it... either that or no one cares.

Thanks for the report. We've been trying to reproduce this, and we can see some unusual behavior related to the autocomplete popup, although not your exact symptoms. Can you explain the exact sequence of events that causes this to happen?

I have the same problem when using burp v1.7.23 in kali 2017.1. Any suggestions? root@kali:~$ java -version java version "1.8.0_131" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_131-b11) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.131-b11, mixed mode)

Hi Aleksander, We have a fix for that issue in the pipeline. It still needs to go through QA but barring any showstoppers it should be in the next release. Please let us know if you need any further assistance.
