Confused by "throttle between requests" vs "pause before retry"

Hello | Last updated: Jan 22, 2016 03:50PM UTC

Isn't setting 5000 milliseconds in "Pause before retry" the same thing as setting 5000 milliseconds in "throttle between requests"? Or is "throttle" a cumulative function giving us a delay of 5000 miliseconds multiplied by x where x is then number of failed retries?

And assuming we set "pause before try" to "2000" and "throttle between requests" to "5000", how do these options work against each other?

Throttle between requests is the delay between each request. Pause before retry applies after a failed request. You can configure Burp to pause so as to back off and let an overloaded app recover.

With setting of 2000 and 5000 ms as stated above, after a failed request, does Burp wait 2000 ms or it waits 2000+5000 ms?

I think trial and error is your friend on that question.
