Restore is very slow

Dan | Last updated: Feb 11, 2016 01:29PM UTC

Burp Version: 1.6.36 Log files created and saved with same version - 1.6.39 File size: 20,895 KB Restore Duration: Stopped the restore after 1.5 hours with only 60% completed. Restoring a previously saved log takes a long time to complete, depending on the file size. This morning, Feb. 11, 2016, I am trying to restore a file size of 25,283 KB. Started at 8:00 AM EST. At 8:28 AM EST only 80% completed. In earlier versions of Burp, restoring a file was much faster but unfortunately I don't have the stats to prove it. A 20 MB file size is small in comparison with other other logs I routinely work with.

It sounds like Burp is having a problem with this specific state file. Do you see any error messages in the Burp alerts tab or on the console? Also, please can you email us your debug ID (at Options / Misc / Performance feedback) and we'll see if we have any errors logged for your instance of Burp.

I believe the restore does a DNS look up when loading some parts of the file. If this is slow – which can happen with various DNS misconfigurations – the restore will be very slow. You may be able to work around this by using Wireshark to identify the DNS queries, and adding hosts file entries for those name. Unfortunately, we're unlikely to fix this behavior in Burp because it only affects a small number of users and is in legacy code. Project files do not have the same issue.

Hi, Even I'm facing the same problem. Restoring State is taking too much time. It's been more than half an hour and the restoration is at 1% Burp version - 1.7.37 OS Version - Win 7 (64bit) Ram - 8 GB HDD - SSD.
