Downloading updates via the BURP scanner tool

Montinique | Last updated: Nov 15, 2016 03:10PM UTC

To Whom this May Concern, I am attempting to download newer versions of the tool via the update prompt that comes up in the tool. When I click to download the installer it appears to be downloading and gets to 100%. After that the screen stays at 100% without actually downloading the update. I have attempted this via versions 1.7.07 and 1.7.06. Is this an issue? Is there anyone else who is experiencing this issue? I have waited for hours for it to update but cannot. I have attempted to close the BURP scanner tool and when I do the download screen goes away. I have also attempted to click around the download update window with no success as there is nothing to click to proceed in the download process. Lastly I have attempted to go through the Help menu, update option as well with no success. Please assist.

We've made some improvements to the update function since releasing the platform installers. Please can you log in to your account and manually download the latest release (1.7.11) and use that. Hopefully the update function will work better the next time we make a release.

Hi folks, I have the exact same error. I'm using Windows 10 - latest everything. It stalls on both 64 and 32 bit versions. I'll log into my account and see if I can get it that way. Thanks,

Hi, I have the same issue on both 64 and 32 bit version. The download does not complete.

running the exe as administrator (not the jar), allowed the download screen to continue to the next screen for me.

Hi Jason, Good to see you found a workaround. We're trying to reproduce this issue here. Could you tell us: 1) What was the old (before update) version of Burp? 2) Do you have any non-ASCII characters in your home directory? 3) Your debug ID (User options > Misc > Performance feedback) 4) Can you remember anything else about the symptoms when the issue occurred?

Hi Kevin, We get periodic reports of this issue but are struggling to find the cause. When you ran Burp from the command prompt, did you can any messages on the console when the update failed? If you could send those to us, it would be really helpful for debugging the issue. Of course, a workaround is to download Burp manually from the website.

I'm having the same issue with version 1.7.27 on Windows 10 pro. Running Burp from the Jar file. When prompted to update it gets stuck saying: Downloading (100%) and never goes beyond that. Tried running the Jar file from command prompt launched with Admin priv's: java -jar burpsuite_pro_v1.7.27.jar But that didn't resolve the issue. Seems to be a reoccurring issue across multiple versions. Anyone find a fix yet?

I Found running the following command to give Java 1 gig of heap space allowed for it to download the installer. java -Xms1g -jar burpsuite_pro_v1.7.32.jar
