ca certificate

Brian | Last updated: Jan 31, 2017 04:41PM UTC

I am attempting to install the CA Cert for Firefox via the link found here: https://support.portswigger.net/customer/portal/articles/1783087-Installing_Installing%20CA%20Certificate%20-%20FF.html Which is: http://burp/ This redirects me to a text site not related to burp. Where do I find the certificate, and more importantly, can that link be fixed?

Hi Brian Thanks for your message. Have you configured your browser to work with Burp Suite? – https://support.portswigger.net/customer/en/portal/articles/1783055-configuring-your-browser-to-work-with-burp Once the browser is configured you should be able to access http://burp. Then you can install the CA Certificate – https://support.portswigger.net/customer/en/portal/articles/1783075-installing-burp-s-ca-certificate-in-your-browser Please let us know if you need any further assistance.

Thank you for the quick response. I had had Firefox already set up, however, I had then disabled using the proxy (so view the instructions on this https site), hence the reason it wasn't working. Thank you again.

is the certificate free? (if not, then how much is it for 'Community Edition') and can you anything with burp without the certificate?

Ben, PortSwigger Agent | Last updated: Jun 03, 2020 05:14PM UTC

Hi, The Burp CA Certificate is freely available and can be installed by following the appropriate link depending upon your browser: https://portswigger.net/support/installing-burp-suites-ca-certificate-in-your-browser You need the certificate if you want to proxy HTTPS sites using your browser in conjunction with Burp.

I now have the certificate installed on firefox, but can only connect to pages online if Burp Suite Interceptor is 'off'. As soon as I turn that 'on' I can see the headers, requests etc but internet connection goes down. So how to do things like 'copy tags' via xss cheat sheet etc?

Ben, PortSwigger Agent | Last updated: Jun 10, 2020 07:27AM UTC

Hi, If you have intercept on then Burp will capture each request sent to your browser before it reaches the destination web server. You will then be required to manually forward each of these requests in order for web pages to load properly. We would generally recommend having the Intercept is off setting configured (the traffic still passes through Burp but you then do not have to manually forward any of the requests) unless you want to capture a particular request in real time. Have you read the following guide to using the Burp Proxy: https://portswigger.net/support/using-burp-proxy
