Burp Proxy unable to intercept Genymotion's traffic

User_named | Last updated: Feb 21, 2017 01:54PM UTC

So I'm a Burp Suite starter and I'm having the issue where Burp's proxy is unable to intercept traffic of the emulated device's traffic even though it can contact the proxy itself through the web interface and ping it also. I checked it with the host PC's web browser and it intercepts it normally. Using the VMware-d Kali host's Burp didn't work again... Any clues (checked if intercept cli requests is in default)? PS. With Android Studio emulator it does work, so how would then Genymotion produce issue here ?

Hi Thanks for your message. Just to clarify, what do you mean by "it can contact the proxy itself through the web interface and ping it also"?

Sorry I missed some words there. I'm able to ping it through the shell. ;)

Are you using a corporate proxy to access the internet? If so, you may need to set up Burp's upstream proxy rules: https://support.portswigger.net/customer/en/portal/articles/2363078-burp-suite-options-upstream-proxy-servers

No, just a regular workstation locally.

It may be that Genymotion emulator doesn't respect the proxy configuration that you have set. Have you tried contacting the authors of the emulator for a solution?

Hi Martin Have you tried using WireShark to find out the protocol of the traffic that is not proxying via Burp? You could try using the NoPE extension to proxy this traffic: - https://github.com/summitt/Burp-Non-HTTP-Extension

I am facing the same issue here. I got it to work to fetch most traffic like this: https://linuxsuperuser.com/configure-burp-suite-proxy-genymotion/ But some apps are still somehow tunneling some of their traffic around burp, and I don't know how to go on from there. Could anyone please help me with that? I use Windows 10 Pro 64b (1703). Does anyone know if there's a way to make sure all traffic goes through burp (or another MITM proxy), using an Android-emulator? Genymotion+burp preferred, but any would do, I guess. I need this working for penetration testing at work!

Hi, I am using Burp suite( Licensed version) and i am unable to intercept any traffic from emulator device. I tries with different emulators as well but its not intercepting. It had been working fine a couple of months back but now its not. Please guide.

Hi Prerna, Thanks for your inquiry. A few questions about your setup: 1) How are you configuring the proxy within Genymotion? (include a screenshot if possible) 2) What interfaces does Burp Proxy bind to? (Proxy > Options > Proxy Listeners > Edit > Binding) 3) Is there a host firewall on your system? Is it configured to allow traffic to Burp? 4) Are you able to connect to a non-SSL web site? We are aware of some issues with SSL sites, so establishing if this affects non-SSL is important. 5) What behavior do you see when you are unable to Intercept. Does the Android browser within Genymotion load the website? Do you see an error message? Is there a long delay? If you can answer all these it will help us diagnose your issue.
