Scanner stucks when pausing

Chris | Last updated: Sep 11, 2017 02:26PM UTC

Hello, Many times I see that the scanner doesn't send any more requests and the I pause it. However the message "waiting for pause" never disappears and the scanner is only again usable when I close burp and restart it.

Are you pausing the Scanner after it stops sending requests? Is the application you are testing still functioning as normal when this occurs?

Yes to both of them

Are you able to reproduce this issue consistently? Do you see any errors in the Alerts tab?

No, this happens randomly. Yes, I see alerts that connection to host is timed out, which is not true as I can access the host with any other tool. Also this issue is not host-specific.

Thanks Chris. We think we have been able to reproduce this issue. We'll investigate further and get back to you.

Hi Chris We haven't been able to reproduce the issue you are encountering. When this issue does happen, is the issue always resolved when you restart Burp?

Hi Liam, yes the only workaround to make scanner work again is to restart burp. This is not host specific, it happens quite often, randomly. What info you want me to collect when this happen again? Thank you

Hi, I forgot to mention that this happens since a long time ago. Also it is worth mentioning that this happens only if the scanner stops sending requests. For example imagine a thread is 79%, it doesnt send any other request while the host is responsive (maybe this is the main problem). Then I try to pause the scanner and the scanner is unusable. I cannot resume it again to continue scanning on other threads for example (until I restart burp).
