Burp User | Last updated: Oct 23, 2017 06:47AM UTC

this happens to me when I'm behind proxy. Did you try setting upstream proxy accordingly, if you are indeed behind proxy?

Hi Muhammed, Two things to check initially: 1) Does this web site work when Burp is not configured as a proxy? 2) Do you have an upstream proxy configured? Look in User options > Connections. Please let us know if you need any further assistance.

Hi Today i am trying to integrate the Sahi automation with the Burp tool. Its noticed that the Sahi will use proxy with port no.r 9999. and i configured the same in our Burp Options -> Proxy Listeners tab. But i am getting the error message saying Unknown host: sahi.example.com Kindly confirm, how best i can process it. to resolve the error and need to capture the requests in Burp History ... while connecting its showing as Port is already in use.... Plz help me in configuring the Sahi to Burp...

We have not used the Sahi tool or configured it to work with Burp Suite. Does Sahi work in a similar way to Selenium? - https://support.portswigger.net/customer/portal/articles/2669413-using-burp-with-selenium Have you tried contacting the Sahi support team for integration advice?

Krati, ensure you are typing the address correctly. It's http://burp.

I also face the same issue "when i browse and intercept and request is forward then error show is unknown host". My upstream proxy configured? Look in User options > Connections doesn't have anything configure. I have imported CA certificate and installed in the same browser. Still issue is same.

Som, which version of Burp are you using? Could you send us a screenshot displaying the error message to support@portswigger.net?

Rose, PortSwigger Agent | Last updated: May 31, 2019 01:40PM UTC

Sweta, please can you send us a screenshot of the upstream proxy configured in Burp? Note the following: The proxy host needs to be the hostname of your corporate proxy. The proxy port needs to be the port of the proxy that you use to access the internet.

I am also facing the issue Unknown Host:" Host name" while configuring burp as an proxy. I have also checked for following: Two things to check initially: 1) Does this web site work when Burp is not configured as a proxy? 2) Do you have an upstream proxy configured? Look in User options > Connections. Everything is fine but still getting the error. I am using v2.1.02.

I faced the same issue while performing testing. For me it was not happening for multiple domains but just one. I updated the "host" file in the machine where my burp is running. And post that the issue got resolved.

Hi, Can you provide us with some additional details of the issues that you are facing and your current setup? Are you able to browse to this site successfully on the machine that you have installed Burp on? Are you using a LAN proxy in order to access the internet in your environment?

Mimnermos | Last updated: Jan 06, 2021 10:09PM UTC

I was having this error and changing my proxy configuration from localhost to 127.0.0.1 solved the issue

Hi, It looks like you are seeing this issue when trying to proxy one of our Web Academy labs - do you see this on every lab you try and proxy?

Ihor | Last updated: Jan 07, 2023 12:45PM UTC

I alway have the same issue to every site - "unknown host" error. I fix this by adding host with it IP address which I want to proxy to Settings -Network - Connections - Hostname resolutions overrides. But this works only when using external browser and another sites stop working, you need to add each. Maybe I can fix this with easer way? Or how can I fix this when using embedded burp browser?

Ben, PortSwigger Agent | Last updated: Jan 09, 2023 07:53AM UTC

Hi, Is there anything particularly unusual about your network connection? Are you using a corporate proxy to access the internet?

Ihor | Last updated: Jan 10, 2023 03:23PM UTC

Hmmmm. I don't know what to say. Looks like everything is working now. I thought about iCloud Private Relay feature but I use chrome, not safari. Thank you for your comment.

Anthony | Last updated: Jan 23, 2023 04:03PM UTC

I am having the same common problem with Burp everything is a default in the proxy connections i choose my target and boom unknown host.

Ben, PortSwigger Agent | Last updated: Jan 24, 2023 08:13AM UTC

Hi Anthony, The Unknown Host error is usually indicative of Burp not being able to resolve the domain name into an IP address. To clarify, do you get this with every site that you are trying to access with Burp (it sounds like this is the case)? Are you using a corporate proxy to access the internet in your environment or do you have a direct connection?

Umer | Last updated: Sep 04, 2023 05:41AM UTC

I am also facing the unknown host issue in the burpsuite professional , despite of been connected right proxy on firefox with the burpsuite. Kindly recommend me some solution.

Ben, PortSwigger Agent | Last updated: Sep 04, 2023 06:38AM UTC

Hi Umer, Are you using a corporate proxy or a VPN in your environment?

jd3abc | Last updated: Nov 10, 2023 01:14AM UTC

I had this issue using virtualbox but I was using NAT in the network settings. I fixed the issue by switching it to a bridged network.
