Burp crashes, asking for license key on relaunch

TJ | Last updated: Nov 15, 2017 09:11PM UTC

Hi there! I've encountered something pretty odd today twice. I'm running the 64-bit Windows version of Burp Suite Pro (1.7.27) and the application just crashes. Upon relaunching, I'm prompted to enter my license key. I'm not sure what's causing the crash, but I'm more concerned about having to enter my license key as I don't want to take up our activations (if that's in fact what's happening) Thanks! Tom

I'm seeing the exact same behavior as of today. Same version, also on Windows.

Same problem here, except on Kali 2017.2 (debian-based)

Same here on OSX. After reintroducing the Licence, it works but update function errors out.

Same here. x64 Win 10, burp 1.7.27. Waiting for answers.

Same here on Kali. I did actually try re-activating the license. It just consumes the activation, and Burp crashes after a while. It will ask for a new activation after that.

Same here - crashes after a while and then the licence is gone. All my colleagues have the same issue.

Apologies for this problem. This was caused by a server-side error in the updates server, which we believe we have now fixed. You should be able to reactivate now without any problems. Please let us know if the problem recurs, thanks.

I'm having the same problem on Kali.

Hi Saad,

To clarify, is Burp crashing or is Burp simply asking for your license key when you relaunch it? If it is the latter, can you confirm whether you are using the jar file version of Burp?

Hi Tharindu,

Are you able to send us an email at support@portswigger.net with some more details of your setup and the issue that you are experiencing (initially some screenshots or a video of this behavior would be ideal)?

We can then troubleshoot this with you to try and identify the root cause.

Hi, Yesterday on relaunching my BurpSuite pro it asked me to enter the license key again, and on giving the key it says activation failed- no more activation allowed on this license. I got a new license just about 1 month back and even on multiple autoupdate of burpsuite it didn't asked me to enter the license again anytime. Can anyone help with the issue?

Hi Arun, Are you able to send us an email to support@portswigger.net and include the first six characters from the license key that you are using so that we can take a look at this for you?
