Burp UI not working in CentOS 7

Mohan | Last updated: Apr 09, 2018 06:33AM UTC

I am evaluating burp test suite for our security testing requirements. I am working on a virtual machine hosted on AWS instance. The AWS instance has CentOS 7 operating system. When I am starting burp through jar file, the burp UI is not getting displayed. Just the outer frame is getting displayed and nothing inside. I tried lot of OS updates and different JDK's 1.6, 1.7 and java 8. But no luck. But on my local machine which has windows, it is working fine. I want to recommend this tool to my architect because of the extensive features it has got. But I am struck here. Can somebody please suggest some pointers to solve this problem

Thanks for this report. We've encountered a similar issue in our testing. Would it be possible to send us any error messages or output from your CentOS console? You can send the details to support@portswigger.net.

We're aware of some issues with fonts on CentOS. This link might help you: - https://stackoverflow.com/questions/45569367/upgrade-rhel-from-7-3-to-7-4-arrayindexoutofboundsexception-in-sun-font-composi Additionally, we recomend you install X and VNC on your CentOS system and access Burp using VNC. Please let us know if you need any further assistance.

Many thanks for the reply Liam. Can you please let me know how does accessing the Burp using VNC helps. From what I understand VNC is remote desktop connection from my Linux Box. If I create a VNC from my Linux box to other Linux box, it also will have the same environment as my current machine. The issues what I face here, I will face there also. Can you please elaborate how do I overcome the Burp limitations what I am facing in my current linux machine in the new remote linux instance that I create through VNC

We suggested VNC as we thought this was a remote issue. Is your issue local or remote? Have you tried the fix detailed in the stack overflow link? - https://stackoverflow.com/questions/45569367/upgrade-rhel-from-7-3-to-7-4-arrayindexoutofboundsexception-in-sun-font-composi

Yes I tried the solutions listed in the above stack overflow link. As suggested I created /etc/fonts/local.conf and copied the specified content. Also I installed dejavu-serif-fonts.But no luck and if I run the burp.jar file, still nothing is displayed in the UI

Mohan, just to help us understand the issue better: - Are you running Burp locally or on your AWS instance? - What is the command line you are using to start Burp? - Is it possible to provide a screenshot of the issue?
