Choosing Which Agents Perform Scans (Burp Suite Enterprise)

DC | Last updated: Jun 06, 2019 04:30PM UTC

Hi, I'm wondering if there's a way to specify which agent machine does the actual scanning when specifying a site to scan. We have some sites that are only accessible internally and some that are public facing. I am toying with the idea of having an agent machine within our network and one outside it, but it won't do any good if we can't specify which agent machine does the scanning. Is this a feature that is offered? (we only have 1 agent machine set up so far) Thanks, DC

This isn't possible at present, but has been requested a few times, and we do understand the benefit. We have a story for "Agent affinity" on the backlog, although it's likely to be a little while until we get to this.

Hello, has this been developed yet? Or any idea when it may be added?

This feature hasn't been implemented. We hope to have something to share as part of this year's roadmap.

Hello, Any updates on enterprise burp agent selection for the 2020 roadmap? Thanks for your support.

This work has been slightly delayed. It is part of next years roadmap. We plan on beginning this work in Q1 2020.

Any update on this implementation?

We are continuing to work towards this feature. We can't currently provide an ETA. We'll update this thread when we have something to share.

Instead of choosing which agent(s) to use for a scan, I'm hoping to be able to create a scanner/agent pool, in which the scans can be automatically/evenly distributed to the scanners in the pool. We also need some guidance on how many scans can be run in parallel on one scanner. My test shows the target sites are not reachable for some reason while in reality, they are reachable and functioning well.

To clarify - "how many scans can be run in parallel on one scanner" - does this mean how many agents can run on one machine? If so, this will depend on the spec of the machine - https://portswigger.net/burp/documentation/enterprise/technical-infrastructure/technical-requirements/machine-specifications

Has there been any updates to when this feature may make it into Burp Enterprise?

This is on our current roadmap:

Roadmap for Burp Suite Enterprise Edition

Extended agent capabilities
Feature enhancement

Ensure scans are carried out using the most suitable agents - based on network location, system resources, or other factors.
